To expedite such response, the business and operational processes and the accompanying business software infrastructure must be adaptive and respond quickly to accommodate new changes. Furthermore, the changes that need to be put into place must be analyzed thoroughly and must first be proven effective, before any potential gains to the business can be realized.The ultimate vision of this research project is the creation of an adaptive decision support framework that allows the high fidelity representation of all value-creation processes along a supply chain in a unified business model.  This can be used to improve their performance in a virtual experimentation testbed, and then to generate and implement with minimal time and effort the corresponding business application software from the same unified model. The first stage of the project will develop a set of conceptual specifications and/or simple proof-of-concept software components for: 1.	synchronized interoperation of distributed simulation model components,2.	concurrent execution of virtual experimentation scenarios on a Grid,3.	symbiotic interaction of a decision support tool and a physical system,4.	enhancement of simulation analysis through optimisation techniques,5.	the overall technical framework and case studies.All critical tactical decisions for supply network management will be enabled through one single IT framework. An immense reduction of the cycle time for business process design-analysis-enhancement-implementation can thus be achieved.
